I try to get this action to work with .mkv files. I think my problem is, that the action "compress quicktime using most recent settings" tries to use the new quicktime player x instead of the old quicktime player 7. Create 2 folders, one for input (to monitor), and one for export Create a new Automator Folder Action, select your input folder in the top portion where it requests which folder this action will receive files and folders from. Add a new workflow step of "Export Move" under "Movies", select your format and Save To folder, you probably want to select delete original when complete. Save. Test! There seems to be an even easier way.

Create 2 folders, one for input (to monitor), and one for export

Create a new Automator Folder Action, select your input folder in the top portion where it requests which folder this action will receive files and folders from.

Add a new workflow step of “Export Move” under “Movies”, select your format and Save To folder, you probably want to select delete original when complete.

Save.

Test!

I found in order to get Quicktime to convert content into the AppleTV format with the "m4v" file extension you need to use the "Export Movies" action for the 4th step vs. “Compress QuickTime Using Most Recent Settings” which exports with the "mov" extension. They both work but I found the quality better using the AppleTV format. This was very helpful but it didn’t work as stated.
